What Is a Kitchen Reface?
A kitchen reface, also known as a kitchen makeover or kitchen facelift, is a cheaper alternative to a full renovation. Instead of demolishing your existing cabinetry, we replace the doors, panels, fillers, kick faces, and, if you want them, benchtops, so your kitchen looks brand new while keeping the layout and carcasses you already have. Hinges are always upgraded to soft-close BLUM hardware as standard, and soft-close drawer runners can be added if your budget allows.
Because we’re building on top of what’s already there, turnaround is much faster than a full kitchen renovation, often a matter of days on-site rather than weeks.

Is Refacing Right for Your Kitchen?
Refacing works best when your existing layout suits your needs and your carcasses are in good condition. During the site visit, James checks the condition of your existing cabinetry and will tell you honestly if a job has crept beyond what refacing can achieve. If a full renovation makes more sense for your kitchen, he’ll say so rather than push a reface that won’t hold up.
If anything unexpected turns up once work starts, such as water damage behind an old panel, you’ll be told straight away and talked through the options before anything proceeds.

- The carcass condition doesn’t stack up — significant water damage or structural wear found during the measure can mean a reface won’t hold up long-term
- The scope keeps growing — if what you’re after starts creeping toward a full transformation, a reface stops being the cost-effective option it’s meant to be

What Changes in a Reface
- Doors and panels — replaced in your choice of finish and style
- Fillers and kick faces — replaced to match
- Benchtops — laminate, engineered stone or natural stone, upgraded to suit your budget
- Hardware — hinges upgraded to soft-close BLUM as standard; soft-close drawer runners available as an add-on
Refacing is focused on doors, panels, benchtops and hardware on your existing cabinetry — it isn’t a layout reconfiguration. If you just want your kitchen cabinets refaced rather than replaced outright, this is exactly where a reface fits. If you’re after new storage solutions or a different kitchen footprint, that moves into full kitchen renovation territory, and James will let you know at the measure if that’s a better fit.
Materials, Finishes & Styles
We use Polytec and Laminex laminate, along with Polyurethane (2Pac) for a premium finish, and Polytec thermolaminated doors — the same door ranges available to our full renovation clients, so a reface doesn’t mean compromising on style.
Shaker profiles are available, and we can also do a fingerpull, J-groove style handleless door for a cleaner look, working within what the existing carcass allows.
For benchtops, laminate suits a smaller budget, while engineered stone (including Caesarstone and Quantum Quartz) or natural stone are available for those wanting a more premium finish. Get in touch for the full range of benchtop options.
Timeline & Pricing
Once measured, doors and panels for your kitchen makeover typically take 3–5 weeks to manufacture, depending on the material selected. On-site installation is fast:
- 1 day for a simple door change
- 2 days for more complex jobs
- 3+ days where benchtops and doors are both being replaced
Pricing generally starts from around $5,000 for smaller jobs, up to $20,000+ for larger kitchens including benchtop replacement. All new doors, panels and stone benchtops come with a 5-year warranty.
Note: Our refacing service covers full door, panel and benchtop replacement. It doesn’t include single door swaps or benchtop repairs.
What It's Like Having Us On-Site
A reface is far less disruptive than a full renovation. You won’t need to move out, and while most clients choose not to use the kitchen while we’re working, it stays functional throughout. There’s some dust and mess as expected with any trade work, but nothing like the disruption of a full strip-out.
